| Accord, NY - Accord Speedway Cancels Out For Third
Straight Week; Next Week HigFab Night By Steve Pados, Accord Media For the third consecutive week Accord Speedway Promoter Gary Palmer has cancelled the plans to go racing tonight at his refurbished raceway. Heavy rainfall is expected to continue throughout the day and evening hours and Palmer decided his only option was to make an early decision and postpone the show instead of making any kind of attempt to work against Mother Nature. Promoter Palmer espressed extreme disappointment in having to make the decision to cancel the show, for he has had the opportunity over the past weeks to continue working on the few troublesome areas with the new racing surface and was hoping to witness how the racers would fare on the re-worked quarter-miler. The new clay has had the opportunity to settle and knit with the existing clay and should produce a great racing surface for the talented field of racers competing at Accord. Throughout the down time at the speedway, Palmer has completely finished the improvements to the bathroom areas and has continued to improve the cosmetics on the grounds at his racing facility. Never resting on his laurels, Palmer has spent countless hours working on the entire Accord Speedway facilities as he looks to the future with all of the improvements he has made since taking over the reigns seven years ago. The many improvements the track has made during the off-season has given the speedway a new look and the on track action has brought out great crowds to witness the tremendous side by side battles that have become standard for the speedway. The new lighting at the speedway, the widening of the racing channels and the new homestretch fence was an extensive off-season project that will pay dividends as the "Gem in the Catskills" races into the future. Special events will highlight the racing later in the season when the CRSA 305 Sprint Cars make their first appearance at the speedway on June 13th. Vintage Modifieds will make special appearances this season, the first being on May 30th, and later in the season they will return on August 8th. Promoter Gary Palmer has booked the popular ARDC Midget Club to come in for a special show on July 11th and along with the ARDC has booked the ACOT Oldtimers racing group to join them for a look at racing from another era. The ARDC, blessed with a solid history of 69 years, will be making their first appearance at the speedway since the Palmer Family has taken over the reigns of the facility. The event is certain to bring the open wheel fans out in big numbers to witness the powerful creations negotiate "the race to the walls facility". In recent shows at Susquehana Speedway, the ARDC club has been averaging a car count in the mid-30's range and Randy Monroe and Steve Buckwalter have emerged victorious in the first two outings at Susquehana, proving the parity among the ranks with the resurgent racing organization Next week, May 23rd, will mark HigFab night at the speedway with a five division card set to unfold. Included will be an additional Pure Stock Division remaining to be run since opening night. Pit Gates at the speedway open at 4:30 and Spectator Gates open at 5 PM. Admission cost for the Adults are $12.00 and for 11years and under the cost is $3.00. Hot laps are at 6:30 and the racing gets underway at 7 PM. The Palmer Family would like to thank all of the sponsors, competitors, fans and staff for making the racing at Accord so special, and look forward to restarting the 2008 racing season after the three consecutive rainouts.
